Starting position: One of the sitting positions
Concentration: On the flame of a candle
Breathing: Normal
Number of repetitions: 3 cycles, each lasting two minutes
Procedure: Darken the room and sit in a position for meditation. Set the candle at one arm’s length away from you. The flame of the candle should be at the level of the center between the eyebrows, or below.
The flame should be as calm as possible; close doors and windows, making sure that there is no draft in the room. Close your eyes and relax the whole body. Open your eyes and gaze at the candle’s flame without blinking. Relax your forehead, face and lower jaw; focus on the lightest part of the flame.
After half a minute, close your eyes and observe the reflection of the flame within the inner space of your consciousness. Relax and the picture of the flame will appear by itself before your eyes. If the flame is moving away, do not try to catch it, for it will move further away; just keep your gaze fixed ahead and the flame will remain within your sight.
Gently and without tension, concentrate on the picture of the flame for one to one and a half minutes. This is one cycle. Do three cycles in total. Instead of the candle flame as an object of concentration, we can also use a black point upon a white background, or white point upon a black background.
Benefits: Increases concentration capacity. Develops self-control, will- power, intuition, and awakens the inner teacher. Purifies the eyes, strengthens the eye muscles, and improves sight and memory.
